Goods transport Albania. From Albania we transport textile, but we also provide e.g. transport of foodstuff.
Albania is a mountainous country on Balkan peninsula. Grassy valleys twist between mountain ridges and they descend to marshy lowlands in the West. After 400 years of Turkish domination the country gained the independence in 1912. The country was occupied by Italian army and then by German army during WWII. National partisans liberated the country and a new state was established in 1946. The main ally of the country was the USSR and later it was China. National economy gradually found itself in a serious crisis and the population was threaten by famine. Many people emigrated to Italy and Greece at the beginning of 90´s. The European Community helped the country by food aid. The country still belongs to the poorest countries in Europe.
Economy
Deposits of oil, natural gas; extraction of natural asphalt, brown coal, chrome, copper, nickel, iron, bauxite, salt. Textile, foodstuff and tobacco industry as well as energetics are developing (hydroelectric power plants on the rivers Drin, Mat, Seman and Bistricë). Corn, wheat, rise, cotton, sugar beet, tobacco, olives, grapes,citrus fruits and figs are being cultivated. Cattle, sheep, goats are bread. Fishing is also widespread. Export – oil, ores, asphalt, cigarettes, cognac (SKANDERBEU brand), fruit and vegetables.a
Transport
- rail transport – 720 km, the main route from Podgorica (Montenegro) to Vlora.
- road transport – 18,450 km, only main roads are made of asphalt, however their quality is not sufficient (an exception is a 22 km long part of four-lane highway with illumination from Rinas airport to Tirana). Car park is outdated, the biggest number of Mercedes cars in Europe per number of inhabitants. Irregular bus service using old Chinese buses or Karosa buses. The most convenient transport – minibus taxis for 6-8 people. The orientation within the country is bad – the lack of direction indicators and indications of villages. 91-98 oct. petrol costs 0,82 to 1 USD; there is plenitude of petrol stations.
- air transport – the only international airport Rinas accepts the planes of these companies: MALÉV, AIR FRANCE,SWISSAIR, Romanian TAROM and OLYMPIC AIRLINES from Greece.
- ship transportation – seaports Durrës and Vlorë, ferry connections Durrës–Bari (I); Durrës–Brindisi (I); Durrës–Koper (SLO) and Sarandë–Kérkira (Korfu).
